My bear hunt in the Katmai preserve was my third hunt in 3 years with Cabot…and it was amazing! The experience of going to and being in an exclusive use area like this was a once in a lifetime backcountry adventure. The area is beautiful, and the wildlife is spectacular. This was my first bear hunt, and it was great. The bears in the Katmai are incredible.
Cabot is a great guide and an incredible person. He is an elite guide. His preparation, thoughtfulness, capabilities, and hunting skill make any hunt with him an adventure and a learning experience. The result is a safe hunt from beginning to end in one of the most incredible areas in the world. Cabot also manages his area to maintain this experience, from a low impact base camp, to managing the wildlife responsibly to minimize impact to the area and to maximize your hunt.
Like many hunts in Alaska, you have to be mentally ready, fit, and capable. If you are, you cannot have a better guide and friend than Cabot Pitts.
Matt was one of the first hunters to hunt in the Katmai Preserve with Alaska Wild Wind Adventures in the spring of 2014 and harvested a very nice bear. The skull measured 27 1/2 inches by Alaska Fish and Game and squared a solid 9’4. He was also guided by Cabot on two different Dall sheep hunts when Matt hunted with Henry Tiffany’s Alaskan Perimeter Expeditions in the Brooks Range.
